Knitting Classes
Cast On/Bind Off Techniques - Saturday, August 8 9:00 - 11:00 AM (2 Hours)

Does your latest pattern require a special cast on? Have you completed a project only to find out you need a stretchy bind off? This is the class for you. Publications and finished items will also be shown for reference.
We will explore several cast ons, how and when to use them as well as specialized bind offs and the projects for which they are best.
Students Should Bring: Worsted Weight yarn solid color, preferably light color. US 8 or 9 needles, Size H crochet hook. Scissors, tapestry needle, other notions.
Spinning Classes
Differential Pl(a)ying - Friday, August 7 8:00 - 11:00 AM (3 Hours)

Level up your plying skills by exploring differential plying. Understanding what it is and how to apply it to your own spinning will help you create more consistent plied yarns and know when and how to troubleshoot when things go awry. We will explore the elements of plied yarns, from a balanced ply all the way to a supercoil. While we will be covering several art yarn techniques, this class is less about spinning art yarns, and more about exploring how differences in tensioning your singles as you ply affects the look of a plied yarn. Whether you’re a new-ish spinner looking to improve your plying skills or an experienced spinner wanting to master this fundamental part of spinning, there is something in this class for every spinner.
You will learn what differential plying is and how small adjustments in how you tension your singles when plying can dramatically change the look of your plied yarns. You will learn the four distinct levels of Differential Plying along with the techniques to spin them.
Students Should Bring: A wheel, 3 bobbins (1 empty, and 2 bobbins of singles in two different solid colors), a lazy kate, a niddy noddy, and a large drop spindle.
Intro to Drop Spindle Spinning - Friday, August 7 1:00 - 4:00 PM (3 Hours)

Enter the world of making your own yarn on a drop spindle; an ancient tool that’s still in use today. The combination of the spindles portability and its ability to make fine to thick yarns makes it a practical choice for modern spinning. No prior spinning experience necessary. This is a great entry and foundation building for learning to spin on a wheel. Students may bring their own drop spindle or purchase one from the instructor
In this class students will learn how to prep the fiber to start a single ply yarn on a spindle, apply the “park and draft” technique, learn how to take the yarn off the spindle, learn how to 2ply their yarn, and how to prep the skein for spinning.
Students should bring: A drop spindle, or you can purchase one from the instructor.
Electric Sheep: Exploring E-spinners - Friday, August 7 1:00 - 4:00 PM (3 Hours)

Tempted by spinning but not sure a regular wheel’s for you? Intrigued by the idea of making just the yarn you want but not sure where you’d put a wheel if you had one? Feet/knees not doing what you want as painlessly as they used to, making the whole treadling part of wheel spinning look less than fun? Take a tour of 12+ e-spinners and even try out a few in this experiential, process-oriented class for folks just starting their spinning journey. E-spinners are small, tabletop-friendly, juiced up and ready to go–you might discover one that’s just right for you!
Students should bring: No participant-provided materials required: instructor will provide all tools and materials. Students just need to bring their curiosity and willingness to learn–and their patience with the process and with themselves.
Crocheting Classes
Crochet a Farmhouse Rug - in a day! Friday, August 7 8:00 - 10:00 PM (2 Hours)

Learn to make your own rustic farmhouse rug using a simple crochet method suitable for beginners. This class will show students how to start their own crochet rug and finish it in one day! We will be using a super bulky core-spun yarn to make a cozy rug.
Crocheting in the round with a basic single crochet Stitch, Magic Loop to get started.
Students should bring: Scissors
Reading Crochet Diagrams! Friday, August 7 11:30 - 2:30 PM (2 Hours)

Crochet diagrams are the universal language of crochet. Words can be confusing but diagrams clearly show where to put the hook and what stitch to make. During class, we'll try our hand at a variety of diagram types including some for garments, amigurumi, and household items. Once you know the symbols and notation, you can read stitch patterns in almost any language!
Must be able to form chain, single, double and treble crochet stitches
Students should bring: Medium weight yarn with plenty of twist and appropriate sized hook (usually around 4.0-5.0 mm or US Size G - H), locking stitch markers, and a tapestry needle.
Corner to Corner Crochet (C2C) Saturday, August 8 11:30 - 2:30 PM (2 Hours)

Have you ever wanted to crochet a scarf with diagonal stripes? Or create an afghan with a picture without piecing squares together? Corner to Corner crochet can do both of these. Learn the easy technique for corner to corner crochet, how to change colors, and how to increase/decrease so you can create different sized squares or rectangles with no sewing involved! You can use a striping yarn or switch colors for stripes and pictures.
Must be able to: chain, slip stitch, double crochet
Students should bring:Worsted Weight yarn, Size G or H crochet hook. Scissors, tapestry needle, other notions.
Broomstick Lace Crochet Saturday, August 8 3:00 - 5:00 PM (2 Hours)

Broomstick Lace is the only crochet stitch Native to North America. It derives its name from the fact that a broomstick was originally used to create the loops of lace for quick scarves, blankets, and accessories. The stitch dates back to colonial times and is simple to create. As time allows, instructor will demonstrate hairpin lace, another crochet method which uses loops and a device to create them.
Participants will learn how to pick up loops, crochet the loops together, and hold stitches at the edge to keep the rows even. Increases and decreases will also be explored.
Must be able to: chain, single crochet
Students should bring: Worsted weight yarn in solid or self-striping/long color change. US H crochet hook, Size 50 Knitting Needle, scissors, tapestry needle.
Felting Classes
Harvest Mouse (3D) Needlefelting Friday, August 7 1:00 - 5:00 PM (4 Hours)

Create your own charming harvest mouse in this 4-hour, hands-on, needle felting workshop. You’ll learn essential techniques for shaping, detailing, and finishing a small wool sculpture, including how to form delicate features like ears, paws, and tail.
Perfect for Felter’s with previous experience to advanced felters alike, this class will leave you with both a completed piece and skills you can continue to build on.
All materials are provided.
Must have: Previously needle felted in 3D before. Basics will not be taught.
Students should bring: Favorite needle felting tools.

Fun, Creative and Relaxing!!! Easy enough for a beginner, but still enjoyable for an experienced felter. This workshop is designed to inspire & ignite your creative side and give you the confidence to enjoy the process of creating something beautiful.
Join us in this exciting workshop and learn the basics of Needle Felting or how to paint and sculpt with wool fibers. You will learn a variety of needle felting techniques, create your very own original piece, and go home with all the materials you need to continue felting! These techniques can then be used to create many different items including 3-D sculptures, wool paintings, jewelry, ornaments, embellishments and more. In addition to basic skills, we will explore the special qualities of wool and other fibers, and more advanced skills such as blending colors, layering, perspective, and more.

Join us for a relaxing and creative workshop where you'll learn the fun, beginner-friendly craft of needle felting! We will guide you step-by-step to transform soft wool roving into beautiful, personalized lavender sachets.
Discover how to sculpt and decorate small designs using specialized needles, then fill your creations with fragrant, natural dried lavender. You'll leave with your own delightful, handmade sachets perfect for scenting drawers, closets, or as thoughtful gifts!

Weaving Classes
Flexible Freestyle for the Creative Spirit Friday, August 7 8:00 - 11:00 AM (3 Hours)

Weave your heart! Add a new approach to your textiles toolbox as you learn to weave freestyle and free-spirited on your rigid-heddle loom. Experiment with color, texture, and technique, and take home a unique piece of woven art that reflects your creative spirit (yes, you do have one!).
Students will learn the basic skills of freestyle weaving on their own simple, easy-to-use rigid-heddle looms. The class will emphasize individual exploration of color and texture in the service of personal expression; a few simple weaving techniques will be taught along the way.
Students should know: Students must have a rigid heddle loom, know how to warp it (they will be bringing it pre-warped), and know how to weave plain or tabby weave on it.
Students should bring: Required: Each student MUST bring a rigid-heddle loom of their preferred width *that they know how to use, warped in advance* with at least three yards of a strong, neutral-colored yarn/thread/cord that will stand up to use under tension, along with one to three stick or boat shuttles (student’s preference) suitable for use with their loom. Students may warp the loom as narrowly or widely as they choose; they may also warp the loom with a longer warp if they choose.
Optional: If students want to bring something personally meaningful to them to incorporate into their weaving if possible, they're welcome–indeed, encouraged–to do so. Some past examples: specialty paper, pieces of jewelry (this is a fun use for unmatched earrings and stray pendants), dyed or undyed fiber, handspun (their own or someone else’s), leftover quantities of treasured yarn too small to knit or crochet into a finished item. Note: any yarn students bring MUST already be wound into a cake or ball.
Small But Mighty: Making Handheld Artworks with Simple Supplies Saturday, August 8 9:00 - 12:00 PM (3 Hours)

Looking for ways to create fun fiber artworks that don’t require a ton of time, space, or money? Then come explore with us! You’ll learn how to wrap and wind all sorts of yarn over and under warp threads on prepared embroidery hoops to weave up a Circling, around cardboard squares to make a frameable Winding, and around slender rope to build a coiled basket (call ‘em Coilings–we do). Any makes not finished during class will go home with you to be completed at your leisure. Making art is truly for everyone–and this class will help you prove it to yourself!
Students will learn how to weave freestyle on pre-warped embroidery hoops ready for hanging once finished, how to wind yarn in various patterns around cardboard coasters that can then be framed, and how to use clothesline and yarn to make a small basket useable in a variety of settings. Each of these makes is inexpensive, simple, and portable, giving students a craft they can easily share with others. Each technique can also be used to create larger and more complex works in the future as the student desires.
Students should bring: Instructor will provide all tools and materials. Students just need to bring their curiosity and willingness to learn–and their patience with the processes and with themselves.
Beginning Rigid Heddle Saturday, August 8 1:00 - 5:00 PM (4 Hours)

This is a beginners class for exploring Rigid Heddle Loom weaving. In class we will cover the following:
Knowing the parts of the loom.
Warping the loom with a warping peg.
Beaming the warp onto the loom.
Threading the Heddle.
Tying on to the front beam and establishing tension.
Weaving a simple mug rug for you to take home.
Students should bring: Patience and a sense of humor!
Dyeing Classes
Seeds to Rainbow - Start your Dye Garden Friday, August 7 11:30AM - 12:30 PM (1 Hour)

Bring Vibrant colors to life right in your own backyard ! In this lecture class, you'll discover the art of growing and using local North Carolina plants to create stunning natural dyes for yarn. Learn which everyday garden favorites like sunflowers, lilies, buttercups, acorns, and even pokeweed can transform fibers into rich hues of yellow, green, brown, magenta, and more.
Whether you're a seasoned gardener, a curious crafter, or new to both, this class will give you the tools and inspiration to make your backyard a source of endless creativity and play. Grow your own color palette and enjoy the satisfaction of crafting with hues you cultivated yourself!

Ever come across a fiber-arts project you’re longing to make but just never been able to find the perfect skein or braid to knit, crochet, spin, or felt it? Take this class and get started on the path towards dyeing just what you need for whatever you want to create! You’ll learn the basics of dyeing wool yarn and fiber with professional-level acid dyes using mini slow cookers and will take home hand-dyed yarn, fiber, and floof in colors you choose for rinsing, drying, and using in whatever projects you like.
Students will learn how to use acid dyes to dye wool yarn and fiber. They will take home what they dye to be further processed at home by rinsing and drying according to class discussion and instructions.
Class open to students 12 years old and up. Students must be able to focus for the duration of the class.
Students should bring: No participant-provided materials required: instructor will provide all tools and materials. Students just need to bring their curiosity and willingness to learn–and their patience with the process and with themselves.

We all have mystery yarn that we can't identify! We don't know what we have or how much we have, and so we don't know what we can do with it. In this yarn-meets-science class, learn techniques to figure out fiber content, yardage, weight category and more. Whether using your stash or shopping for more, you’ll never look at yarn the same way again!
Students will learn how to identify and quantify characteristics of mystery yarns

Thinking about purchasing fiber? Wondering how to pick out a great fleece? Want to learn the differences in wools, alpaca, llama, mohair and more. Curious about what is involved in preparing your own fleece? Should you process it yourself or send it to a mill? What are your options?
Fiber quality and preparation makes a huge difference in your final product. Knowing your options will allow you to control the process and achieve the outcome you desire.

Sashiko Pincushion Saturday, August 8 9:00AM - NOON (3 Hours)

Learn the Persimmon Sashiko pattern and make a wooden base pincushion. I hand dye the threads you will use in natural indigo, and we will work through stitching the Persimmon pattern which is a great beginner project. A wooden base and pillow of walnut shells are provided in your kit to complete your project.
Students should bring: Scissors, glasses (if needed for close work) and battery powered light if needed.
Ply Split Bracelet Saturday, August 8 1:00 - 4:00 PM (3 Hours)

Come learn the Ply Split Braiding technique and make a colorful bracelet. The technique is from the Thar Desert in India/Pakistan and used by the camel herders to make ties for their pack camels. Peter Collingwood researched and documented this and brought it to the textile world. I will prepare the cords and teach you how to use the gripfid tool (all of this supplied in your kit) to split the 4ply cords and pull cords through and create designs.
Students will learn the history of the technique and a great start in how to apply it to make both flat braids and the endless possibilities of 3D objects.
Students should bring: Glasses (if needed for close work), battery operated light (if needed), pen/pencil for notes, an open mind.
Embroidery for Beginners Saturday, August 8 9:00 - 11:00 PM (2 Hours)
Classroom 4 Instructor - Jenny White at Lucky Jonquil

Together we will explore six foundational embroidery stitches with a solid surface, stitching through laser cut pre-drilled and etched wood. This format is forgiving, allowing us to correct mistakes easily and focus on the formation of stitches rather than use of a hoop, tensioning fabric, and pattern transferring. Everything necessary will be provided in class.
Back Stitch, Stem Stitch, Chain Stitch, Colonial Knot, Lazy Daisy, and Woven Wheel stitches

Trash To Treasure - Make Your Own Yarn Saturday, August 8 12:00 - 3:00 PM (3 Hours)

T-shirts and old sheets seem to be in never-ending-supply. What if you could turn those old t-shirts and sheets into yarn! Create your own upcycled yarn using a few basic cutting tools - it’s like getting yarn for free!
Students will learn how to how to turn t-shirts and bed sheets into yarn.
Students should bring: T-shirts and/or old sheets, rotary cutter and cutting mat, scissors that can cut fabric, quilting ruler.
